I was watching Band of Brothers today on Blueray and noticed something.  Some of the paratroopers had their non-comm stripes painted or stamped on.  I even noticed at least one set of stripes with a T for the techinical ranks.  Was this something that actually done during a supply shortage or just the costumers cutting corners?

The painting of rank on uniforms was a common thing, especially with HBT's.  the "T" ranks existed throughout WW II.

That makes sense, because the scenes I noticed them in were the ones around D-Day when they were in HBTs.
