13-15 January 2017, Bois de Bavent, Zavalla, TX

Bois de Bavent
13 - 15 January
Zavalla, Texas

Late June, 1944, Normandy, France.  For three weeks, the British 6th Airborne Division has been digging in and skirmishing with the germans in the Bois de Bavent, on the eastern perimeter of the Orne Bridgehead.  Neither side can gain the upper hand.  Patrols go out, patrols come back.  The british efforts cannot manage to push the germans out to expand the bridgehead, and the german efforts cannot manage to push the british back to eliminate the bridgehead.  The stage is set for two more months of this daily grudge match until the breakout from Normandy by the allied forces will finally be achieved.
Live out the grudge match in the Bois de Bavent at the trench warfare site at Zavalla, Texas.  The site consists of an open field flanked on both sides by acres of trenches in the edge of the woods.  There are 'french woodsmen camps' that anchor both trench systems.  The site is jeep and light vehicle friendly, and there are numerous logging trails criss-crossing the site.
The villages have limited bunk space available, so ensure that you bring your period tentage and equipment.  Modern Vehicles will be allowed into no-man's-land to unload only, and then must be moved back to the parking area.  The trench site is the perfect setting to bring out all your campaign gear, set up field phones and wire, and all your other WW2 eye candy that you don't often get to use.  You will be manning the line all weekend, conducting patrols, raids and attacks on your foe.  Period correct meals will be served to all participants on Saturday Morning and Saturday evening.  Bring your own PERIOD CORRECT lunch rations.  Supper on Friday night will be available on a pay-as-per meal basis at the german field kitchen.  The cost for the Friday night meal is $7.00 per person.  The property also has several logging roads running throughout it, and is vehicle friendly, and we will be conducted mounted patrols as well.  Jeeps and Kubelwagens, etc., are more than welcome to participate.

The GPS grid location for the entrance to the site is 31.143135, -94.410823
From the North from Lufkin or South from Houston, take Highway 69 to Zavalla, and then go east on Highway 63 into Zavalla.  From the east, take Highway 63 into Zavalla.  From either direction, once in Zavalla on Hwy 63, turn south onto Barge Road at Huntington State Bank.  Barge road doesn't have a sign marking it.  It's the only road at Huntington Bank you can turn onto.  Go 0.2 mile (less than a quarter mile) on Barge Road, and turn left/east onto Cooper Road.  Be careful or you'll miss the sign.
Go 1.1 mile on Cooper Road, and you'll come to a fork in the road.  Go to the left, onto Rushing Road.  Go 0.1 mile on Rushing Road, and you will arrive at the gate.  There will be Black and white signs guiding you to the event, and a registration and parking sign at the site itself.  See photos below.  Park your vehicle and report to registration.
BATFE address is 1 Rushing Road, Zavalla, Texas, 75980
