Military History Fest
Lords and Ladies -
Don't bury your camp gear someplace where you can't get it, because you are gonna NEED IT come February!
Military History Fest (formerly Reenactor Fest) is moving to the Pheasant Run Resort and Convention Center in 2012 and we are taking over the MEGA CENTER for the world's first indoor reenactment! That's 38,000 square feet of convention floor to play in! In addition to all the fine sutlers that will be in there, we are blocking out space for about sixteen 20' x 20' encampments. Each group will compete for the best display and the prize is $500 in cash and $500 in books from Osprey and Casemate! $500 can be a unit's entire mess/powder bill for the season, so that's nothing to take lightly.
Popping up a tent isn't going to do it though. The unit that will win is going to have to create a living diorama, and the PUBLIC will judge it so interaction is going to be a big factor.
The rest of the hall will be full of sutlers (selling reenacting gear and original military antiques) and at the very back will be a military vehicle / heavy weapons display. Wagons, cannon, and everything but live horses are welcome!
If you aren't familiar with Pheasant Run, it's a resort unlike any other and the rooms are CHEAPER than prior Reenactor Fest rates. There is a full recreation of Bourbon Street inside the resort, complete with brick streets, balconies (please keep your shirts on ladies) a cajun bar and restaurant, video arcade, shops and a Ben and Jerry's ice cream parlor. There is also a Zanie's Comedy Club but I don't know who in their right mind would miss our parties at night! The hotel has TWO waterfall pools, one of which is an indoor/outdoor where the bolder among us can swim out even in winter! There are multiple places to eat and drink inside the hotel, and then outside we are surrounded by places within walking distance. It's a great chance to take the whole family and make a mini-vacation out of it! No more angry wife! Yay!
Historical Dance classes, seminars and workshops, live historical music and every part of Reenactor Fest's prior offerings are again a part of this show. It's still for US but now we are opening it up to the public for their entertainment and education.
If your unit wants a 20' x 20' space you need to sign up FAST because you are competing with everybody from Romans to Vietnam for the very few spots. Drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org
and let me know!
This is the biggest thing to happen to our hobby in decades - don't miss it!
